I met this guy on MySpace around five years ago. I was in eleventh grade, was in the anime club, had weeby friends, so on and so forth. However, unlike those friends, this guy… was unique. To say the least. He went beyond the garden variety weeaboo. No, his insane demeanor was a level above that.
Technically this violates our anonymity policy, but considering this guy’s made national news I doubt it’s a concern.
Thad McMichael, online alias madthad, began garnering e-infamy a few years ago when 4chan’s /a/ got ahold of his Facebook. As pictured above, he created a fake “Mai Waifu” page with a picture of Kotonoha Katsura from School Days through which he would roleplay with himself; he also bragged often and openly about his paedophilia and masturbating to child pornography. His facebook seems to have since been cleared of posts, but it’s not hard to find screencaps through Google. He also filmed a video of himself nude and humping a Kotonoha body pillow which made the rounds on Tumblr.
Earlier this year he was finally arrested and charged with possession of child pornography. Fair warning to the curious - his tumblr and most of the news articles quoting him exemplify his really, really gross attitudes towards child rape, including a great deal of misogyny and victim blaming. Don’t investigate any further if you’re triggered by that sort of stuff.
Now, I was always a fan of anime. No, not the “OMG KAWAII-DESU CHAN” type fan, but a casual watcher and reader. About a year ago, I was a senior in high school. I was getting ready to pack my bags and leave, although I still had about 3 months until myself and a close friend went to go be roommates.
Now, I was the only person in my family who ever really liked anime and all that jazz. Sometimes my mom would poke fun at me and say I was “Japanese in another life”, and sometimes my sister would play along. One day, I decided I’d tell them that I was really just a casual fan and nothing more. My sister seemed a bit interested and asked if I could show her some shows. I said that would be cool, and I’d show her over the weekend.
Big. Mistake.
