It was the start of my freshmen year in high school; at the time, I did have friends, but we had different classes and didn’t see them much, only at lunch or between passing periods. I had heard there was an anime club, so of course I went to go check it out, the female teacher who ran it was really awesome, let’s call her Mrs. M. She is not your average teacher, she was the woman who would always read manga when her students were doing their work. The club was throwing a small party, a good 15-20 people came. I met a guy, we’ll call him Day. Well, Day wasn’t my type nor was he very good looking, I will say he had pretty eyes; well you know how anime fans meet, introduce each other and talk about anime.
We were sitting in the back, talking about Bleach and laughing away. Day seemed pretty cool, so from then on we became friends, you know, exchanging numbers, being friends on Facebook. We would text each other about anime, and make a couple of jokes about anime we saw, or ask things about each other. I remember he had asked me out through text and confessed his feelings for me, but I told him he wasn’t my type and told him that I hope we could still be friends in the nicest way I could put it. That’s when things started to get freaky.
We’d be texting and having normal conversations and such, and things like that, but this one day, he texted me, ‘What if a guy were to favor you?’
In confusion of his question, I replied ‘What? Do you need a favor?’ (Spanish is my first language, so there are some English things that I just don’t understand although I don’t have an accent and am fluent in English because I was born and raised in America.)
He seemed to get angry and irritated by my response and responded with, ‘You don’t know what that is? Think!’
I tried thinking about it, but I couldn’t think of another meaning, so I replied in embarrassment, ‘I’m sorry.. I don’t understand.’
He then started to get a little more hostile and angrier with this unusual response that led me to discomfort, ‘OKAY, YOU KNOW THAT THING IN HENTAI OF THE GUY DOES TO A GIRL DOWN THERE?’
I have seen hentai before, but I had no idea what he was talking about, in reply I just texted, ‘Umm, yeah..’
‘OKAY THAT. WHAT IF SOMEONE WANTED TO DO THAT TO YOU?’
I replied in an uncomfortable response, ‘I’d tell that guy I only see him as a friend..’ His final response was of disappointment, which was, “Oh..”
I blew off the situation, still a little shaken by it but I got over it. After about a month, he pulls a similar question. ‘What if a guy wanted you to come over to his house and watch hentai with you?’
I felt the same amount of discomfort as his first awkward question and replied something like, ‘Um.. I’d say no..’
‘What if that guy was me?’
I got freaked out and replied, ‘Oh.. I’m sorry, I don’t want to do that..’ His response was the same, ‘Oh..’
It was only after all that, Day had a sudden change of heart. Day would start ignoring me, and act really cold towards me, and I’d be talking to him but, it seemed as if whenever I’d say hello to him in the morning, Day would be irritated. I talked to him anyway, regardless of how distant Day became towards me, until one day he cut me off by saying something that hit me straight in the heart, “Your voice is really annoying.”
I stood up and walked off, upset. I cried. I finally told my English teacher what had happened and reassuringly told me she’d talk to Day. It was after this happened, things changed for the worse.
Day turned all my anime club friends against me, and tried really hard to kick me out for no reason and expel me because I “supposedly” threatened him. I did NO SUCH THING. I came to the conclusion that he couldn’t endure me rejecting him, so mostly all the people in anime club ignored me except for my friends, it did bother me, but I let it go.
This is where Day angered me to my boiling point. I have a friend who was in middle school at the time, let’s call her Dee, she would secretly sneak in the school to come to anime club, until Day told the principal, and Mrs. M kicked her out. I got upset and cried. We walked to the front of the school and we saw Day with an amused smirk on his face, so I started screaming at him and he’s saying stupid shit back at me. I couldn’t take it and I charged at him, but was held back by my friends. He stepped into his ride with an amused grin.
So the next day, I immediately confronted one of the principal and told him everything that Day had done and why he doesn’t like me. Sure enough, Mr. B did talk to Day and told him to leave me alone, and if he ever did anything like that again, he’d be in BIG trouble.
Moral of this story: Don’t be too nice, and don’t let anyone get TOO close, you never know what might happen. I’m glad Day left the school, he put me through so much pain at that time.
